Man Utd player Garnacho signs with Chelsea
Chelsea Bolster Attacking Lineup with New Signings
Chelsea have strengthened their attacking options ahead of the new season with the addition of several new players. The world champions have secured the services of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, Jamie Gittens, and most notably, Alejandro Garnacho.
Joao Pedro currently stands as the only fit center forward for Chelsea, with Liam Delap sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during the match against Fulham. This potential delay in Nicolas Jackson's loan move to Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich could leave Enzo Maresca with only Pedro as a viable option at center forward.
Garnacho, a former Manchester United player, has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea. One of his most notable achievements with the Red Devils was scoring in their 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City in 2024. Upon joining Chelsea, Garnacho expressed his excitement, stating, "It's an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can't wait to get started."
Nicolas Jackson, a Senegalese international, was expected to join Bayern Munich but his departure is now uncertain due to Delap's injury. Jackson is currently on loan at Bayern for a fee of €16.5 million.
The injury to Liam Delap could impact Chelsea's attacking options, as they may be left with limited options up front. Garnacho's signing has increased Chelsea's spending in this transfer window beyond £250 million.
Garnacho, along with Antony and Jadon Sancho, had been excluded from first team training with the rest of the squad this season at Manchester United. However, he fell out of favor under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. Garnacho was present at Stamford Bridge to witness Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Fulham, which propelled them to the top of the Premier League.
In his time at Manchester United, Garnacho scored 26 goals in 144 appearances. His signing marks a significant boost for Chelsea's title defence, with the Argentine expressing his delight at joining the world champions, stating, "I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special - we're the best team in the world!"
