In a bizarre turn of events, Enitan Awoyemi, a 41-year-old resident of Irolo-Remo in Ogun State, Nigeria, has been arrested for allegedly staging his own kidnapping.

The incident came to light when local authorities received a ransom demand claiming that Awoyemi had been kidnapped. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the demand was a fabricated part of Awoyemi's kidnapping scheme.

According to reports, Awoyemi had accumulated gambling debts of approximately 1 million Nigerian naira ($595) from a lottery game. Faced with mounting debts, he devised a plan to stage his own kidnapping as a means to escape his financial predicament.

The investigation into Awoyemi's case was joined by local communities and the Vigilantes Group of Nigeria. The Amotekun Corps, a security outfit established by the South-West Governors of Nigeria, also got involved, tracking Awoyemi to Ijagba and eventually to Ota.

Awoyemi was captured by the officers at the Irolu okada park while on patrol. He was quickly transferred to the Rufina Private Hospital in Iperu for medical treatment. His current location is the Rufina Private Hospital, where he is awaiting medical stabilization before being handed over to the police.

Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, who headed the investigation, stated that Awoyemi will be handed over to the police in Ilisan once medically stable. Further investigation and legal proceedings will follow once he is in police custody.
