Man from St. Louis found guilty for swindling $200,000 using Kohl's Cash fraud
In a shocking turn of events, Marshall Lampkin, a man from an unspecified location, has been convicted of stealing over $200,000 worth of merchandise from Kohl's using Kohl's Cash coupons. The scam, which occurred more than 100 times in 2021 and 2022 at 40 different Kohl's stores across 13 states, was reported in a Department of Justice press release.
Lampkin's method involved a clever trick. He would purchase items in the store, using Kohl's Cash coupons to get his refund. Immediately after, he would use the same coupon online, before the first transaction had a chance to process. Prosecutors allege that this allowed him to spend Kohl's Cash twice without detection.
Once he had acquired the merchandise, Lampkin would sell it on Facebook Marketplace. The items included flooring, furniture, small appliances, and various other products.
The jury reached their verdict in less than 10 minutes after a two-day trial. Lampkin was convicted on five counts of mail fraud. His lawyer's details in the fraud conviction case are not publicly documented.
Lampkin had packages from his online purchases shipped to storage units in St. Louis and a relative's house in Illinois. Lampkin is scheduled to be sentenced in December. While the specifics of his punishment have yet to be determined, it's clear that his actions have resulted in significant losses for Kohl's and the impacted communities. As always, it's important to remember that such actions are illegal and can lead to severe consequences.
