Major building initiative underway along the route to Lemgoer

Lemgoer Street Renovation Project Begins in Detmold

The city of Detmold is embarking on a significant infrastructure project with the comprehensive renovation of Lemgoer Street, a bustling thoroughfare that sees up to 14,000 vehicles daily, including several bus lines. The renovation, starting next week, is one of the largest infrastructure projects in recent years in the city.

The renovation aims to upgrade the street's infrastructure and improve traffic and pedestrian conditions. As part of the project, the drainage system of Lemgoer Street, which no longer meets today's requirements, will be overhauled. A new sewer system for separated wastewater streams is being installed, with the sewer construction costs amounting to around 2.5 million euros, financed from the wastewater fee revenue.

The renovation will take place in two construction phases. During the first phase, the Lemgoer Street will remain accessible towards the city center from the direction of Lemgo/Klüt. However, short-term closures of individual accesses cannot be completely avoided during ongoing work. Traffic exiting the city will be diverted to the right at the intersection of Sylbeckestraße and directed via Siegfriedstraße onto the Nordring. Parking spaces in front of the Sparkasse branch will be arranged in the middle of the street.

In the second construction phase, the intersections of Georgstraße/Sylbeckestraße and Feldstraße will be converted into roundabouts. Additionally, sidewalks along Lemgoer Street will be widened, and new greenery will enhance the street space, with 50 new street trees to be planted. The renovation also seeks to make the street space more attractive, greener, and modern, serving not only technical renewal but also the improvement of the street's aesthetics.

Cycling infrastructure on Lemgoer Street will be improved as well. Access to the properties along the route should generally remain possible, also for emergency services. No street construction contributions will be levied.

The renovation project has been carefully planned to keep the restrictions for residents, traffic participants, and businesses as low as possible. For any questions or inquiries, Torben Gocke can be contacted at 05231 977 401.

In the immediate vicinity of Lemgoer Street, there are residential areas, schools, and industrial operations. The first construction phase will last about one and a half years, with the second phase following after its completion, including the redesign of the intersection of Georgstraße/Sylbeckestraße and the southern part up to Feldstraße.

The renovation of Lemgoer Street is a significant step towards modernizing the city's infrastructure and creating a more attractive, green, and modern street space for all users.
