Mahindra's SUV sales surge by 21% in May 2025, boosting overall sales by 17%
In a positive development for the Indian automotive industry, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has reported a substantial increase in its vehicle sales for May 2025. The company's total vehicle sales stood at 84,110 units, marking a notable growth compared to the same period last year.
The growth was primarily driven by the sustained consumer demand in the utility vehicle (UV) segment. Mahindra's core strength lies in this segment, and the figures reflect this, with a 21% growth in UV sales compared to May 2024. Domestically, the company sold 52,431 SUVs in May 2025, while the combined sales of SUVs, including exports, totaled 54,819 units.
On a fiscal year-to-date (YTD) basis, Mahindra has sold 104,761 utility vehicles domestically in FY26 so far, indicating a steady growth trend. The sales figures include both domestic and export volumes across passenger and commercial vehicle categories.
The commercial vehicle (CV) segment showed a mixed performance in May 2025. While the LCV 3.5T category and the MHCV category showed marginal year-over-year (YoY) growth of 1% and 5% YTD respectively, the sales growth in the CV segment as a whole was 17% compared to May 2024.
Mahindra's success in the UV segment can be attributed to the strong customer pull across urban and rural markets. Flagship models such as the Scorpio-N, XUV700, Thar, and Bolero Neo have all contributed to this sustained demand.
The growth in exports has also positively contributed to Mahindra's overall performance in May 2025. Mahindra's exports in May 2025 increased by 37% compared to May 2024, with 3,652 units shipped. On a fiscal year-to-date basis, Mahindra's exports have surged 55%, rising from 4,528 units to 7,033 units.
The company's robust export performance is due in part to the growing demand in the SUV segment. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. recorded a substantial export increase to 7,033 units in June 2025, supported by the rising demand, strategic expansion plans including upcoming EV exports to the UK, and preparations for growth supported by new models on their NU_IQ modular platform launching from 2027.
The three-wheeler segment, including electric variants, saw a 11% growth in May 2025, totaling 6,635 units, supported by the rising adoption of last-mile electric mobility solutions.
In conclusion, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has reported a significant increase in its vehicle sales for May 2025, with the UV segment leading the growth. The company's strategic expansion plans, robust demand for its flagship models, and preparations for new EV models are all indicative of a promising future for the company.
