Maharashtra to Pioneer Geographic Mapping of Waqf Properties
Maharashtra is set to make history by becoming the first state in India to geo-map all of its Waqf Board assets. The Maharashtra State Board of Waqf (MSBW) has commissioned Datametica Solutions Pvt Ltd. for this groundbreaking project, which aims to significantly boost the Board's revenue and promote transparency.
The initiative involves leveraging cutting-edge GIS technology, digital mapping, and data analytics for modern, accountable, and strategic Waqf property management. The geo-mapping project includes an enterprise-grade, web-based GIS Asset and Management Information System.
The rollout of the geo-mapping project will commence in Pune, Aurangabad, and Mumbai, and later extend to other districts. The project will cover approximately 45,000 properties and sub-units spread over an estimated 92,000 acres.
Once completed, the project is anticipated to significantly increase the MSBW's annual rental income from the current Rs 8.5 crore to nearly Rs 50 crore. The project will geo-tag each of the 45,000 properties and sub-units with detailed documentation, including location, boundaries, area, legal status, lease terms, encroachments, and zoning.
Field surveys will be conducted to collect and verify data for the geo-mapping project. A mobile application will be developed for on-site data collection and integration with satellite imagery. The entire project is slated for completion in four years and three months.
The geo-mapping project is expected to help the Board clearly identify legitimate assets, detect illegal occupations, and unauthorised constructions. It is also anticipated to support evidence-based decision-making related to property maintenance, dispute resolution, leasing, and development, ensuring compliance with the Waqf Act and MSBW regulations.
According to Mr. Jaivanshi, the project will protect community interests, improve transparency, and unlock the true developmental potential of historic Waqf assets. The state government has invested Rs 26.22 crore in the project, which has been awarded to M/s Innowave IT Infrastructures Limited.
However, it's important to note that the Union Cabinet has not been mentioned as approving any Online Gaming Bill in the context of this article. The geo-mapping project is expected to roll out within the next 15 days.
