Luxury Country Cottage Designer Persisted for 'Golden' Paint Shade, Now Advocating Its Use in Every Home
The Wisteria Cottage, a newly renovated standalone holiday home, has become a captivating addition to The Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire. This design masterpiece, re-imagined by Martin Hulbert Design, offers a unique blend of style and comfort, each space telling its own story through its design.
The cottage boasts a three-bedroom, three-bathroom floorplan, with each room showcasing a different shade from the carefully curated colour palette. The primary bathroom ensuite is a surprising delight with its flattering yellow hue, while the kitchen is painted in an earthier palette with highlights of warmer ambers and caramels.
The colour palette, chosen by Jay Grierson and the design team at Martin Hulbert Design, includes shades of yellow, orange, green, and brown, all aimed at creating a calming atmosphere and linking the rooms together. The dining room features a paint colour with a golden-greenish tinge on the ceiling and woodwork, while the drawing room showcases beadboard wall paneling and a semi-gloss ceiling for added depth.
Terracotta zellige tiles are used on the walls of the dining room, adding a touch of Mediterranean charm, and they also adorn the alcove pantry in the kitchen. The first guest bedroom is clad in beadboard panelling and painted in Edward Bulmer's Lute, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The small study adjacent to the drawing room has a slightly lighter variation of the colour palette to distinguish it as a separate space. One bedroom features wallpaper in a classic golden yellow, while the primary suite boasts a terracotta upholstered headboard. Even the kitchen curtains echo the earthy tones, with warmer ambers and caramels dominating the palette.
