Luxurious Yangwang U8 SUV by MONSTER, priced at $250K, aims to disrupt Australia's SUV sector; BYD's Denza mulling over introducing a sporty U9 sports car as well.
The Chinese auto giant BYD, through its sub-brand Denza, is gearing up to enter the Australian market before the end of 2025. The brand, known for its commitment to technology and luxury, aims to challenge German, Japanese, and Korean rivals with its offerings.
A Diverse Portfolio for Denza Australia
At the Shanghai show, the Denza Z and the production version of the Fangchengbao Super 9 were unveiled as potential additions to the Denza portfolio. Alongside these, the Denza Z9 GT station wagon and D9 luxury people-mover are also in the mix.
One of the most intriguing models in Denza's lineup is the Yangwang U9 "dancing" supercar, which is being considered as part of Denzaβs premium brand lineup. If it makes its way to Australia, it would join the already announced Yangwang U8 plug-in hybrid luxury SUV, priced at approximately $250,000 AUD.
The Yangwang U8: A Powerful Contender
The Yangwang U8 is a powerful, heavy, and expensive plug-in hybrid off-roader designed to compete with luxury Range Rovers. Denza Australia & New Zealand Chief Operating Officer Mark Harland has confirmed that the U8 is on his list of future vehicles for Australia.
Harland has also expressed interest in bringing the even more expensive and palatial version of the Yangwang U8, the U8L, to Australia, but not immediately, as he wants to establish the Denza brand locally first.
Denza's Approach to Pricing
Harland has promised that Denza models would be "accessible" on pricing, which means they will likely undercut the Toyotas and potentially sit well below $100,000. This approach is part of Denza's strategy to quickly establish itself as one of Australia's premium segment leaders, combining promised cutting-edge technology and luxury equipment.
Off-Road Capability and More
The Denza line-up in Australia is expected to include the Fangchengbao Bao 5 and 8, rebadged as the Denza B5 and B8. These models, which are Toyota Prado-sized and line up against the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series respectively, boast significant off-road capability.
As Denza prepares to launch in Australia, it aims to offer high-tech, luxury, and "accessible" pricing, targeting the premium market. With a 10-strong dealer line-up that will steadily expand, Denza is set to make a significant impact in the Australian automotive landscape.
