The skies over Germany are set to witness a celestial spectacle on Sunday, as a total solar eclipse is expected to be visible in some regions. The solar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Sun, and causing it to appear darker and reddish.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the visibility forecast for the eclipse is uncertain due to factors such as a low-pressure system from the west and possible fog fields. However, the regions with high chances of clear visibility include the south and northeast of Germany.

In the south of Germany, where summer holidays are still ongoing, the total solar eclipse can be easily observed with children, according to Carolin Liefke from the Haus der Astronomie in Heidelberg. She also mentioned that the sun will be completely eclipsed during the event.

Several observatories, such as the one in Stuttgart and the Bodensee Planetarium in Kreuzlingen near Constance, are open due to the solar eclipse. Observers may have to wait until the sun is above the atmospheric layers to see the eclipse clearly, as it might be difficult to see near the horizon due to the reddish tones of the Moon during the solar eclipse.

Two observatories in Berlin, the Zeiss-Großplanetarium and the Archenhold-Sternwarte, offer guided live observations through professional telescopes for interested people. The Haus der Astronomie in Heidelberg is another location where the total solar eclipse can be observed.

Sebastian Schappert, a meteorologist from the DWD, stated that the forecast is uncertain, but it's possible that the eclipse can only be seen when it's already out of total eclipse. The total solar eclipse will end by 20:53 UTC on Sunday.

The solar eclipse is a unique celestial event related to astronomy, and it's a great opportunity for everyone to witness this natural phenomenon. It's recommended to check the latest visibility forecast before planning your observation to ensure clear skies.
