Luitpoldschool now glows with renewed splendor

The Luitpold School, a significant historic monument and a vibrant educational institution in Upper Franconia, has recently completed its renovation. The total cost of the project was 2.23 million euros.

The renovation, which included individual remaining works, was successfully completed in 2025. The facade, designed by city architect Hans Jakob Erlwein between 1899 and 1901 in the Art Nouveau style, has been restored to its former glory. The ornamentation and fairy-tale motifs, particularly elaborate, have been meticulously restored.

The renovation also encompassed the historic tower and the renewal of windows. Windows on the south side were replaced with new ones featuring sound protection and external sun protection.

The ceremonial event to celebrate the completion of the renovation was attended by Principal Monika Mühlholzl, Mayor Andreas Starke, Regional President Florian Luderschmid, and the school community. Mayor Starke expressed gratitude to all involved in the project, including planning offices, restorers, construction companies, and funding partners.

Funding for the renovation came from various sources. The Upper Franconia Foundation, the Bavarian State Foundation, and the Bavarian Office for the Preservation of Monuments contributed to the tower's renovation. The Municipal Investment Program (KIP-S) and the same foundations also provided funding for the school's facade renewal.
