Louisville Cardinals Dominate Season Opener Against Eastern Kentucky
The Louisville Cardinals kicked off their 2025 season in style, defeating Eastern Kentucky University with a commanding performance. In the team's home opener on Friday night, Isaac Brown, a sophomore running back, shone brightly, rushing for 126 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Kentucky University football team, led by head coach Walt Wells, struggled to keep up. Quarterback Myles Burkett was sacked four times and completed only five of his 14 passes for 76 yards. Cornerback Vito Tisdale Jr., however, provided a glimmer of hope for the losing team, recording two interceptions in the game. Both interceptions came off deflections in the final minute of the second quarter, each resulting in a 29-yard return for Eastern Kentucky's lone score of the first half.
Louisville outgained Eastern Kentucky, 543-150, with 373 yards coming in the first half alone. The Cardinals committed a dozen penalties that cost them 106 yards, but their offensive prowess was still too much for Eastern Kentucky to handle.
Jeff Brohm, the coach of Louisville, praised the performance of quarterback Miller Moss in his debut with the Cardinals. Moss, a former Southern Cal quarterback, completed 17 of 25 passes for 223 yards and ran for a touchdown. His ability to go deep was on display with a 30-yard scoring pass to Duke Watson. Eight Cardinals caught passes from Moss in the game.
Caullin Lacy of Louisville also made an impact, scoring a 93-yard punt return for a touchdown midway through the first quarter.
As for Eastern Kentucky, they will look to bounce back next Saturday when they host Houston Christian. Louisville, currently fourth among the teams receiving votes in the first AP Top 25 poll of the season, will hope to climb the rankings following the impressive season opener. Whether they enter the top 25 in the next poll remains to be seen.
