Lost Father Discovered Alive in Lisbon Accident, Following Rescue of Toddler Son from Debris
In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the Lisbon community in mourning, a cable car accident has claimed the lives of 16 individuals, with another 21 sustaining injuries. The tragedy struck a German family particularly hard, as they initially feared the worst for their father. Thankfully, he was later found alive but severely injured in a hospital. The family, which includes the father (severely injured), his wife (also severely injured), and their child (lightly injured), were all involved in the accident.
The British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, issued a statement after it was confirmed that three British nationals were among the deceased. Among those who have been identified are Andre Jorge Goncalves Marques, Pedro Manuel Alves Trindade, and Alda Matias.
Nationals from at least seven countries, including Portugal, Ukraine, South Korea, Canada, Switzerland, the US, and France, were among those who lost their lives in the accident.
Experts have pointed to the funicular's design and inadequate maintenance as the factors that made the accident inevitable. The incident involved a tram without brakes, which careened out of control, causing the devastating wreckage.
Emergency teams arrived on the scene in under five minutes and began the arduous task of pulling victims from the wreckage. Many passengers survived by jumping through the tram's windows. Netizens were relieved to know that the father of one of the victims had miraculously survived the ordeal.
