Lorry operator under the influence of alcohol causes accident in Tiergarten tunnel, halting traffic flow
In an unexpected incident, a lorry crashed inside Berlin's Tiergarten Tunnel on Monday evening. The exact cause of the crash remains undisclosed.
The incident took place around 20:00, and the driver, a 57-year-old individual, was found trapped in his cab. Rescue personnel rushed to the scene, but the damage from the crash was extensive, causing significant disruption to traffic.
The driver, who was later confirmed to be intoxicated, misjudged his route, leaving the vehicle jammed sideways in the tunnel. The crash blocked traffic for several hours, causing a major inconvenience for commuters.
By around 08:30 this morning, the Invalidenstrasse entrance towards Kreuzberg was reopened, but the tunnel exit towards Moabit remains closed due to ongoing recovery and repair work.
The recovery process is currently underway, and recovery of the vehicle is expected to take some time. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The name of the driver, who caused the accident, is not publicly disclosed at this time. Authorities are working diligently to restore normal traffic flow in the Tiergarten Tunnel as soon as possible.
