London prepares to unveil the world's biggest miniature attraction in an unprecedented location within its city bounds
New Immersive Attraction Set to Transform Oxford Street
London's iconic Oxford Street is set for a significant revitalisation, with the announcement of a new immersive attraction. This exciting development, proposed by developers Pocket Planet, is expected to occupy a 50-metre stretch of the street, between Bond Street and Marble Arch, in a former New Look store site.
The attraction, which is yet to be named, will feature large-scale models of UK landmarks, complete with moving planes, trains, vehicles, and boats. The team behind the project draws on the best of leisure interior design and some of the greatest modellers in the world, promising an unparalleled experience for visitors.
The project is expected to boost footfall to the remaining retailers in the neighbourhood, as up to 200 million pedestrians per year are estimated to walk past the attraction's door. With a high-volume and affordable ticket price, the miniature world concept is anticipated to work well.
Westminster City Council has played a key role in the revitalisation of Oxford Street, launching a £10m scheme to replace 'candy stores' with fledgling businesses paying discounted rents and business rates. The new businesses in the scheme are expected to contribute to the vibrancy and diversity of the street.
The development will also include a retail space and café, opening in Spring 2024, with the full attraction due to open in early 2025. Pocket Planet CEO, Mark Vlassopulos, described the space as 'incredible' and a 'tourism hotspot of the UK.'
Oxford Street has been awarded retail funding to the tune of £100m for its revitalisation, and by the end of the year, up to £100m is expected to be invested in the area. The income from the attraction is projected to have a very metronomic and steady flow from ticket sales, contributing significantly to the local economy.
The attraction's relatively low operating cost, coupled with its projected success, makes it an exciting addition to Oxford Street's ongoing revitalisation. As the details of the attraction continue to emerge, it's clear that this new immersive experience will be a significant draw for tourists and locals alike.
