In a closely fought match between Moscow's Lokomotiv and Samara's Wings of the Soviets, the Russian Premier League (RPL) encounter ended in a 2:2 draw.

Lokomotiv, currently third in the RPL table with 15 points, equalised to the leaders Krasnodar and Baltika, as both teams have a match against CSKA yet to be played. The draw, however, prevented Lokomotiv from taking the lead in the league table.

The first goal of the match came early, with Dmitri Vorobyov scoring for Lokomotiv in the third minute. Dmitri Barinov extended Lokomotiv's lead in the 44th minute.

Wings of the Soviets, who have lost four consecutive matches and currently sit eighth in the RPL table, fought back. Amara Rahmanovich equalized for Samara's team in the 53rd minute.

The match seemed destined for a draw until the 96th minute, when a dramatic turn of events took place. Vadim Rakov, a Lokomotiv player on loan to Wings of the Soviets, converted a penalty to give Lokomotiv a glimmer of hope.

However, Nikolai Komlichenko's 89th-minute goal was disallowed due to a VAR review, and he was sent off for a foul in the box after the disallowed goal.

With both teams failing to secure a win, Lokomotiv will play Akhmat in Grozny on September 13 in the eighth round, while Wings of the Soviets will host Sochi on September 14.

The coach of Lokomotiv, Mikhail Galaktionov, will be hoping for a win in the next match to regain their position at the top of the table. The RBC Sport Telegram channel is discussing the news, with fans and experts alike analysing the match and its implications for the rest of the season.
