Linz Airport fuels Upper Austria’s economy with €128.5M impact and 1,700 jobs

Linz Airport plays a key role in Upper Austria’s economy, according to a new analysis. A study by Professor Cocca examined the airport’s financial impact, revealing a total economic contribution of €128.5 million. The findings also highlight how the facility supports nearly 1,700 jobs across the region.

The report assessed Linz Airport (Flughafen Linz GmbH) alongside around 50 businesses based on its premises. It found that the airport directly employed 174 people—160 full-time equivalents—by the end of 2024. When including jobs at nearby companies, the total rises to 903 full-time roles dependent on the airport. For each full-time position at the site, an additional 0.9 jobs are created in the surrounding area, bringing the overall total to 1,713 full-time equivalents.

The study confirms Linz Airport’s significance as an economic engine for Upper Austria. With €128.5 million in value added and thousands of jobs tied to its operations, the facility remains vital. However, its future depends on securing additional funding and expanding its route network.
