The District of Fürth, located in Bavaria, has successfully eradicated the pathogen American Foulbrood, as announced by the responsible veterinary authority on 28th August, 2025. This marks the end of protective measures enacted to safeguard the citizens from any potential risks associated with this bee disease.

The eradication of American Foulbrood was confirmed on 10th April, 2025, when the pathogen was detected in a beehive in the city of Zirndorf. However, the authorities assured the public that the detection did not indicate any danger to the citizens.

The protective measures were enacted on 11th April, 2025, through a general decree, aiming to protect against American Foulbrood in the district of Fürth and the designated restricted zone. These measures were put in place to ensure the safety of the citizens, but the authority confirmed that they did not affect the safety of the citizens.

The decision to lift the protective measures was made based on the clinically unremarkable follow-up examinations of the affected bee colonies. These examinations did not indicate any danger to the citizens, and the pathogen did not pose a risk to the public.

The consumption of honey from infected colonies is also harmless to humans, as confirmed by various studies. Therefore, the citizens can continue to enjoy their favourite honey products without any concerns.
