Leverkusen has appointed Dane Hjulmand as their fresh coach

Bayer Leverkusen has announced the appointment of Kasper Hjulmand as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag earlier in September. The Danish tactician is expected to sign a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Hjulmand, who previously coached Mainz in the Bundesliga 11 years ago, brings a wealth of experience to the Rhinelanders. His most recent coaching stint was with the Danish national team, where he led them to the semi-finals of the European Championship in 2021. However, his tenure as national coach ended with a 0:2 defeat against Germany in the 2024 EM round of 16.

The new appointment comes after a series of departures from Bayer Leverkusen, including key players such as Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Granit Xhaka. Hjulmand's tenure with the club will likely involve rebuilding the team and restoring their competitive edge.

Reports from German outlets "Kicker" and "Bild" suggest that an agreement has already been reached for Hjulman to take over the reins at Bayer Leverkusen. The decision to hire Hjulmand was not without controversy, as there were reported personal issues between Erik ten Hag and both the players and Bayer functionaries.

Hjulmand's appointment marks a new chapter for Bayer Leverkusen, with the Danish coach now expected to oversee a major restructuring at the club. Fans will be eagerly anticipating the start of Hjulmand's tenure, hoping for a return to form for the Rhinelanders.
