Leftist Hatred towards Israel Accused by Antisemitism Commissioner

In a recent statement, Federal Government's Antisemitism Commissioner Felix Klein expressed concern over a planned event this Saturday in Berlin, organised by a local chapter of the Left Party in cooperation with the "United Palestinian National Committee".

Klein criticised the event, stating that he found this cooperation to fit the picture of anti-Semitic Israel hatred within the Left Party that has been emerging in recent weeks and months. The commissioner went on to say that publicly perceptible resistance against anti-Semitic Israel hatred within the party is decreasing more and more, a development he described as dangerous.

The "United Palestinian National Committee" is an umbrella organisation where supporters of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Hamas are reportedly closely cooperating, according to the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution report. This report was also mentioned by Klein in his criticism of the event and the Left Party.

Klein stated that he has found extreme, anti-Israel positions within the Left Party, including among members of the Bundestag. He further expressed that anyone who wants to point out and condemn the suffering of people in Gaza without clearly distancing themselves from the worst terrorist organisations makes themselves unbelievable in his eyes.

The Local Chapter of the Left Party in Berlin, which is the subject of Klein's criticism, has been identified as the Local Chapter of Die Linke in Berlin. The chapter has been planning the event with the "United Palestinian National Committee".

Images of the starving and suffering population in Gaza, according to Klein, are hard to bear. However, he expressed concern that the dwindling internal party resistance against such sentiments within the Left Party could contribute to a growing Israel hatred within the party.

In light of these concerns, Klein's criticism of the event serves as a call for increased vigilance and dialogue on the issue of anti-Semitic Israel hatred within political parties.
