Learning center Kim-Sprachcafé promotes education and cultural interaction

In the heart of Lünen, every Wednesday from 4:30 PM to 6 PM, 'Mitmach.RAUM' (Market Street 2a) transforms into a vibrant hub of language learning and cultural exchange. This is where the KIM Language Café takes place, a unique initiative aimed at helping participants improve their German skills and navigate everyday life in the city.

Organised by Hares Kohestani, a Germanist and employee of the Municipal Integration Management, the Language Café has been ongoing since February 2025. The café addresses a wide range of topics, from grammar to integration-specific content, and provides a protected environment for practicing German and promoting everyday exchange.

A regular group of participants has formed, with a mother of two children gradually gaining confidence to speak German in a familiar setting. Her children also participate regularly, benefiting from the Language Café's environment and often possessing very good language skills.

Two participants in the Language Café have recently obtained an A2 language certification from different providers, a testament to the café's effectiveness in language learning. One participant finds the café essential for improving her language skills without the pressure or tests often associated with formal classes.

Kohestani emphasises that language acquisition involves more than just grammar and vocabulary, emphasising the importance of the social aspect. The Language Café provides an opportunity for participants to engage in conversation, ask questions about daily life and administration, and seek support when needed.

The Language Café is closely linked to the consultancy work of the Municipal Integration Management, an organisation funded by the Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Flight and Integration of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (MKJFGFI). It also receives funding from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) of the European Union.

There is no fixed curriculum in the Language Café to allow for flexibility in responding to needs. This approach, coupled with the café's welcoming atmosphere, makes it an ideal place for people waiting for a language course or seeking to consolidate their current knowledge.

Whether you're a beginner or looking to brush up on your German skills, the KIM Language Café in Lünen offers a supportive and engaging environment for language learning and cultural exchange. So, why not drop by 'Mitmach.RAUM' on Wednesday evenings and join the conversation?
