Auto manufacturer Stellantis to initiate Leapmotor brand in South Africa this year, debuting with the C10 SUV model.

Leapmotor's brand is set to debut in South Africa this year, commencing with the introduction of their C10 SUV under the Stellantis umbrella.

Stellantis, Europe's second-largest automaker, announced the launch of the Leapmotor brand in South Africa during the Stellantis Week 2025 event. The introduction marks a significant step for the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, as the Leapmotor C10 extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) will be the first model available in the region.

Stellantis is a significant external shareholder of Leapmotor, having invested 1.5 billion euros in the company in 2023, acquiring approximately 20 percent equity. This strategic investment has enabled Stellantis to establish a strong partnership with Leapmotor, paving the way for the introduction of Leapmotor vehicles in South Africa.

The Leapmotor C10 EREV will be available at selected Stellantis dealerships in South Africa starting September 2025. An announcement about the availability of additional models, including fully electric vehicles, is planned for the coming months. Leapmotor's portfolio in China currently includes the T03, B10, C01, C10, C11, C16, and the newly launched B01 electric sedan.

In China, the B01 has a starting pre-sale price of RMB 105,800 ($14,750). Leapmotor's vehicles are gaining popularity, with the company delivering 48,006 vehicles in June, marking the second consecutive month of record-breaking sales.

Leapmotor's growth is not limited to China. In collaboration with Stellantis, the company is set to start production in Malaysia by the end of 2025. The strategic partnership between the two companies is expected to bring more Leapmotor models to the global market in the near future.

In May 2024, Leapmotor officially established Leapmotor International, a joint venture in which Stellantis holds 51 percent equity. This joint venture is expected to further strengthen the partnership between the two companies and accelerate the expansion of Leapmotor's global footprint.

With the launch of the Leapmotor brand in South Africa, Stellantis is taking a bold step towards a sustainable future, offering South African consumers a diverse range of electric vehicles that cater to various needs and budgets.
