In the heart of Hamburg city on August 29, 2025, the much-anticipated Bundesliga match between Hamburger SV (HSV) and FC St. Pauli (FCSP) took place at the Volksparkstadion (Bahrenfeld).

Both clubs' supporters had announced fan marches starting in Altona-Altstadt (HSV) and the St. Pauli district, respectively. The HSV fan march had approximately 7,500 participants, and the FCSP march had around 3,500. Both marches reached the Volksparkstadion at 17:30 without any notable incidents.

The police operation securing the match was a collaborative effort between the Hamburg Police and the Police Directorate Kaiserslautern, as well as officers from Bavaria, Bremen, Brandenburg, Hesse, Saxony-Anhalt, and Schleswig-Holstein, and the federal police. A total of over 1,900 officers were deployed for the operation, which started at 14:00.

The pre-match, match, and post-match phases of the match passed without any notable incidents from the police's perspective. Police President Falk Schnabel stated that thousands of fans from both teams celebrated the derby peacefully and fairly in Hamburg. The game, arrival, and departure went smoothly due to the mostly restrained and disciplined behavior of the fans.

The police department is satisfied with the course of the evening from a police perspective. For traffic updates and advisories related to future events, you can visit this link.
