In a bold move, Thai police have nabbed 13 individuals, including the mastermind couple behind an notorious online gambling ring, Tee Yai 888, in a series of raids across five provinces. The suspects and their lavish assets, estimated to be worth around 50 million baht, were apprehended following relentless investigation.
Police Commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), Withaya Sriprasertparp, announced the dismantling of the Tee Yai 888 network. This insidious operation had been wreaking havoc in Thailand’s lower Northeast for quite some time, fueling a myriad of criminal and social issues in the region. The gang's exploits even stretched across the virtual realm, where they showcased their extravagant wealth, casing envy among many gamblers who suffered significant losses.
The mastermind duo, Nithithiwat, 53, and his wife, Nawaporn, 30, were nabbed at a plush villa in Pattaya while basking in their hard-earned relaxation. Both confessed to their involvement in illicit gambling and money laundering during questioning.
According to Withaya, the network’s activities spanned over two years, during which they moved a staggering 600 million baht through their network. The operation was so vast that it required 80 CSD officers, who conducted raids at 14 locations across Buri Ram, Chon Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani on Sunday.
The cops seized several valuable assets, such as luxury vehicles, land titles, gold, and digital assets like bank accounts and ATM cards. The arrested mule account owners, gambling website administrators, and accountants also surrendered a total of 29 vehicles, 49 land title deeds, and a hefty amount of gold.
The Tee Yai 888 network had started as a simple gambling operation but quickly evolved into a multifaceted venture, offering a wide range of activities, including football bets, baccarat, and slot machines. They cleverly laundered their earnings by operating through numerous front companies, such as construction and car rental firms.
