Law enforcement apprehends intoxicated e-scooter riders
In a recent incident, a 23-year-old man from Kleinostheim found himself in legal trouble after an alleged driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol incident involving an E-scooter.
The incident began on a busy street in Würzburger Straße, where the man was noticed by a supermarket employee attempting to steal an alcoholic beverage can. The police were soon alerted and set out to investigate.
As the officers, who were riding their bicycles towards Graf-Adolf-Straße on Kasernenstraße, approached the intersection with Benrather Straße, they came across the 23-year-old man. He had been struggling to park his E-scooter and was noticeably unsteady on his feet.
The man ignored the red light and crossed their path from the right on the sidewalk of Kasernenstraße. The E-scooter user nearly fell while crossing the intersection, and there was a strong smell of alcohol on the man's breath.
An alcohol breath test was administered to the man, and the reading was well over one per thousand. A blood sample was also taken from the man for further analysis.
The man was subsequently prohibited from driving permit-required vehicles until further notice. He now faces criminal proceedings for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving, whether on traditional vehicles or alternative modes of transport like E-scooters. It is crucial for everyone to make responsible choices when it comes to their safety and the safety of others on the road.
