Early Morning Car Accident in Witten: Stolen Vehicle Involved in High-Speed Chase

A dramatic early morning car accident occurred in Witten on September 6, resulting in severe injuries for two female passengers from Dortmund and a comprehensive criminal complaint for the 16-year-old driver from Bochum.

The accident took place in the area of Hauptstraße, Witten, involving a stolen vehicle that had been taken from Bochum city center between September 4 and 5. According to the police, the person who stole the car fled from the police before the accident, leading to a high-speed chase through Bochum and Witten.

The car was driving without lights despite the darkness and repeatedly ran red lights, causing the police to pursue it. The breathalyzer test showed a reading of 0.42 percent alcohol for the driver, and a blood sample was taken for further analysis.

The vehicle involved in the accident was seized and found to be no longer roadworthy. The estimated property damage from the accident is over 20,000 euros.

Two female passengers, aged 14 and 18, sustained severe injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. Fortunately, the 16-year-old driver from Bochum was uninjured. His two passengers from Bochum, aged 16 and 20, sustained minor injuries.

The driver ignored the police's stop signals and fled, leading to the chase. The license plates of the stolen vehicle had been swapped with stolen ones from Bochum-Langendreer.

The 16-year-old driver from Bochum now faces a comprehensive criminal complaint, including charges of vehicle theft, driving without a license, and endangering traffic.
