Law enforcement actions during a protest connected to the Middle East conflict
In Berlin, unauthorized gatherings at Rosenthaler Platz and Hackescher Markt in the evening attracted approximately 200 people, with no identified assembly leadership at either location. The gatherings, related to the Middle East conflict, saw the deployment of police forces to address the unauthorized protests.
Deployment forces initiated a total of 106 criminal investigations, with 96 investigations related to bodily injury, suspected illegal residence, use of unconstitutional and terrorist organization symbols, and criminal and prohibited slogans. At Hackescher Markt, such symbols were observed, and some individuals were forcibly removed by deployment forces.
As the gatherings continued into the night, around 80 people were stopped, contained, and checked due to criminal and prohibited slogans at Hackescher Markt, and approximately 20 more people were subjected to similar measures at Rosenthaler Platz. Some participants showed verbal aggression towards the deployment forces at both locations.
In an effort to disperse the crowds, all persons on Rosenthaler Straße were asked to leave, and some individuals had to be forcibly removed. The total number of people subjected to freedom-restricting measures increased to 104, with 94 people, including 70 women and 24 men, affected.
The calls for these protests were linked to pro-Palestinian activists who organized demonstrations against the conflict in the Middle East. The actions, which took place at specific times, aimed to express opposition to Israeli policies and show solidarity with Palestinians amid escalations. However, the events were marked by antisemitic slogans and controversial comparisons to Nazi crimes, as seen in previous demonstrations such as the one at Leopoldplatz in Berlin.
The total number of criminal investigations initiated by deployment forces now stands at 106, reflecting the heightened tension and unrest at these gatherings.
