Last weekend witnessed 237 instances of premeditated murder in Mexico, according to reports
In the weekend leading up to the Guadalapana festivity, Mexico witnessed a concerning surge in intentional homicides. According to the latest data, a total of 241 cases were reported, surpassing the number from the same period last month and exceeding the average daily rate over the past 12 days (76.4 cases).
The State of Mexico took the lead with the highest number of intentional homicides during this weekend, with 28 cases. Jalisco, Oaxaca, and Sonora followed closely behind, each reporting 12, 10, and 10 cases respectively. Nuevo León, Chihuahua, and Mexico City each had 20, 15, and 15 cases respectively. Morelos reported 17 murders, while Baja California and Guanajuato ranked fourth and third with 13 and 19 cases respectively. Puebla and Veracruz each had 11 cases.
However, it's important to note that the data does not provide a ranking of the most violent cities in Mexico, nor does it indicate any significant change in the trend of violent cities compared to previous data. The data also does not provide information on the causes or motives behind the intentional homicides.
The five most violent cities in Mexico, as per previous data, are Ciudad Juárez, Culiacán, Tijuana, Chihuahua, and Acapulco.
In the first 12 days of the current month, 917 intentional homicides have been committed in the country, for a daily average of 76.4 cases.
In contrast, the celebration of Mother's Day weekend (May 10-12) saw a total of 237 reported cases of intentional homicide in the country, marking a slight decrease from the previous weekend.
This increase in violence is a cause for concern and underscores the need for continued efforts to address the root causes of crime and violence in Mexico.
