Last chance: Weekend closing of Dolphin Discovery Trail not to be missed!

The island of Guernsey has been captivated by a unique public art exhibition featuring 62 life-sized dolphin statues, known as the Dolphin Discovery Trail. This trail, inspired by similar initiatives featuring puffins, cows, donkeys, and goats, has been a summer attraction and a significant fundraiser for two local charities - the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) and Autism Guernsey.

One of the star attractions of the exhibition is Flippertron, a sponsored dolphin, who has been on display at Le Pommier Hotel all summer. Over 1,000 people have used the Turfhunt app to find Flippertron and other dolphins across the island.

The public has also been invited to participate in a selfie competition with Flippertron, sponsored by Bailiwick Express Guernsey. The form to enter the competition can be found at the provided link. The winner will receive a Champagne Afternoon Tea with Le Pommier Hotel.

Andrew Sparkes, Director of Autism Guernsey, has expressed his gratitude for the event, stating that it has been wonderful and will raise significant funds for the charities. Both charities need to raise tens of thousands of pounds annually to fund their core services.

After the exhibition, the dolphins will be cleaned and repaired before being auctioned on 17 September at the Peninsula Hotel. Some dolphins may also be permanently displayed across the island. In addition, some dolphins will be on display at the Charities' Seafront Sunday on 14 September.

Reservation bids for the dolphins are now being accepted. The deadline for the selfie competition, however, is not specified. The sponsors for the dolphin discovery trip auction raising funds for GSPCA and Autism Guernsey are yet to be announced.

The GSPCA works tirelessly to prevent animal cruelty, rescue animals, provide shelter, and promote kindness towards animals. Autism Guernsey, on the other hand, strives to increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of autism while providing support to autistic individuals and their families.
