Las Vegas man sues Bellagio after violent jackpot-related attack on casino floor
A Las Vegas man is taking legal action against the Bellagio casino and three individuals after a violent attack on the gaming floor. Joel Vargas-Gutierrez, who won a $2,600 jackpot in December 2022, claims he was assaulted shortly after leaving the slot machine where he hit the prize. The incident began on December 12, 2022, when Vargas-Gutierrez won the jackpot on an Egyptian-themed slot machine. After moving to another machine, three people approached him. They falsely claimed they had won on the same slot where he had just played.
The confrontation turned physical when one attacker stepped toward him in a threatening way. Vargas-Gutierrez says he had to defend himself before security guards finally intervened. By then, the assault was already underway.
Vargas-Gutierrez is now suing the Bellagio for negligence and negligent security. He is also pursuing legal action against his three alleged attackers for battery, assault, and intentional infliction of mental distress. Court documents show he is seeking over $15,000 in damages, along with legal fees, interest, and punitive compensation.
He states that the attack left him with lasting physical injuries and ongoing mental distress. The lawsuit highlights claims of inadequate security response during the assault. Vargas-Gutierrez continues to seek compensation for the harm he says he suffered. The case will determine whether the Bellagio and the three individuals bear legal responsibility for the incident.
