Largest-ever Christmas staffing initiative as John Lewis aims to hire 13,700 workers
The John Lewis Partnership (JLP), which encompasses both the retail group John Lewis and supermarket chain Waitrose, has announced a massive recruitment drive for the upcoming Christmas season. A total of 13,700 roles will be available across 35 John Lewis stores, Waitrose shops, and JLP's warehouses and supply chain network.
This recruitment drive is the biggest ever for JLP, as they prepare to meet the expected surge in demand from consumers during the festive period. Every year, the partnership recruits for temporary shop workers and logistics staff during the "golden quarter" and January sales period.
Jo Rackham, JLP's chief people officer, stated that the seasonal teams play a huge role in spreading festive magic. The roles offered are rewarding and exciting, providing an opportunity for individuals to be a part of the Christmas season at John Lewis and Waitrose.
JLP's warehouses are set to dispatch more than two deliveries each second during the "golden quarter," underscoring the importance of the seasonal workforce in ensuring a smooth and timely delivery of goods to customers.
In addition, JLP's roughly 70,000 workers, referred to as "partners" due to its employee-owned structure, share in the profits of the business and have a say in how it is run. Chairman Jason Tarry expressed his determination to reinstate the bonus payments for staff when the retailer is in a position to do so, following the fact that for the third year in a row, JLP's workers have missed out on an annual bonus.
John Lewis has become synonymous with the Christmas period in recent years, with its annual seasonal advert contributing to this association. JLP expects approximately 30 million visitors to its shops during the mentioned period.
It's worth noting that the FTSE 100 ended higher in this news article, but this information is not related to the John Lewis Partnership recruitment drive.
Despite the challenges faced by the retail sector, the recruitment drive by JLP underscores the importance of the holiday season for retailers and the need for a dedicated workforce to ensure a successful festive period.
