The Republic of Latvia is currently hosting the Namejs 2025 military exercises, a significant event involving the Latvian Army, the National Guard, and troops from the United States. The exercises, which began today and are scheduled to last until September 8, 2025, also involve forces from three Baltic armies.

The joint NATO forces' headquarters in Latvia is also participating in these exercises. However, the specific nature of their involvement has not been disclosed. Meanwhile, Canadian command is participating separately in the Namejs 2025 exercises, but the exact role they are playing remains undisclosed.

Approximately 12,000 people are participating in these exercises, and the movement of military equipment on roads and low-altitude aircraft flights have been warned about to local residents. However, the warning does not specify the duration or exact routes of these activities.

In a bid to ensure the safety and security of the exercises, part of Latvia's airspace near the border with Russia and Belarus has been closed. This is a precautionary measure to avoid any potential disruptions or concerns during the exercises.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow any instructions given by the authorities during this period. The Namejs 2025 military exercises aim to strengthen the collective defence capabilities of NATO and its member states, and contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
