Large-scale Cultural Narrative Initiative in Dubai Garners Participation of More Than 5,000 Individuals
In February 2025, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched Erth Dubai, a cultural and community initiative that has since sparked regional interest and attracted over 5,000 participants. This project, initiated by Dubai Municipality, aims to create one of the largest archives of personal stories about life in the emirate of Dubai.
Erth Dubai invites the public to contribute narratives about various aspects of life, including maritime life, trade, education, and neighborhood histories. The initiative's mobile app, launched to facilitate contributions, enables users to easily upload stories, images, and recordings.
The shared accounts on Erth Dubai reflect Dubai's traditions, values, and growth, forming a diverse record of the city's evolution. These personal stories have generated more than one million social media engagements, demonstrating the wide public involvement driven by the interactive content on the platform.
Schools have also been engaged through dedicated challenges in Erth Dubai, encouraging students to document family histories. Participants have shared their experiences through the initiative's website and digital platforms, contributing to the vast archive of personal stories.
General Coordinator Ahmed Saeed Al Sharid credits the leadership's vision for Erth Dubai. He emphasises that the initiative reinforces Dubai's position as a city that honours its past while shaping its future. Erth Dubai continues to invite the public to contribute, ensuring the archive continues to grow, capturing the essence of life in the emirate of Dubai.
