Landmark order sees DSV integrating four Volvo FH Aero Electric trucks into their vehicle fleet.
DSV, the world's fourth-largest transport and logistics company, has taken a significant step towards a greener future by deploying four Volvo FH Aero Electric 4x2 tractor units into its UK operations. These electric trucks, the first of their kind to be put into operation in the UK, are part of DSV's ambitious plan to run 2,000 electric models in its fleet by 2030.
The new trucks, supplied by Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland, are direct replacements for older diesel models in the DSV fleet. They are equipped with a comprehensive suite of active safety systems, including Forward Collision Warning with adaptive cruise control, Advanced Emergency Braking, Side Collision Support, Lane Keeping Support, and Driver Alert Support.
Each truck is equipped with the maximum six batteries, offering an approximate driving range of up to 300 km. The recharging time for the trucks is just 2.5 hours while using a 250kW DC charger.
The trucks also boast the standard I-Shift gearbox for a smooth and comfortable driving experience. Additionally, they feature Volvo Dynamic Steering, I-See Predictive cruise control, and full air suspension for improved maneuverability, driving efficiency, and comfort. The trucks generate up to 666 hp and 2,400 Nm of continuous torque, thanks to their three electric motors.
The presence of Volvo's Camera Monitoring System (CMS) contributes to aerodynamic performance and boosts safety and visibility. The Globetrotter cabs of the trucks are fitted with leather upholstery, a suspended and heated driver's seat with dual armrests, a premium 50mm mattress protector, a 33-liter fridge, and additional cab storage.
The deployment of these electric trucks will result in immediate carbon savings on routes previously served by diesel trucks. DSV's commitment to integrating more than 300 CO2-free trucks manufactured by Volvo Trucks into their operation by 2026 is a testament to their dedication to a sustainable future.
Under the Volvo Gold Contract, DSV is guaranteed maximum uptime with comprehensive five-year maintenance and repairs, including proactive monitoring of batteries and associated components. This agreement also includes 500 Volvo Trucks with highly fuel-efficient diesel and gas drivelines.
Established in 1976, DSV operates road, air, and sea divisions, making it one of the leading transport and logistics companies in the world. The logistics company of Bjรถrn Schade in Jessen is another notable entity that has committed to integrating more than 300 CO2-free trucks manufactured by Volvo Trucks into their operation by 2026.
This move towards electric trucks is a significant step in DSV's journey towards a more sustainable future. As the world continues to grapple with climate change, companies like DSV are leading the charge in adopting cleaner, more efficient technologies.
