Land Rover's Velar Model Embraces Electrification, Swaps V8 Power for Electric Muscle
Jaguar Land Rover is set to join the electric vehicle revolution with the upcoming release of the Range Rover Velar EV. The luxury automaker is working on an electric version of the full-sized Range Rover, but it's the smaller Range Rover Velar that's set to lead the charge, as part of their major electric offensive beginning in 2026.
The new Velar will be built on the EMA platform, featuring 800-volt technology, and is planned for release in the second half of 2026. The electric development of the Range Rover Velar will be spearheaded by Jaguar Land Rover, with the vehicle set to be a significant player in their electric lineup.
The overall shape of the Range Rover Velar EV will be similar to the existing ICE-powered model, but there are some noticeable changes. The front end of the EV resembles the current model, with thin headlights and blacked-out areas where the grille and air intakes would be. A solid black panel may replace the traditional grille, adding a modern touch to the vehicle's design.
Under the hood, the Range Rover Velar EV is expected to feature electric motors that out-muscle the supercharged V8 of the current model. This could potentially make the EV more powerful than the current SVAutobiography Dynamic model. The vehicle is also rumoured to utilize two electric motors for all-wheel drive, ensuring a smooth and powerful driving experience.
The Range Rover Velar EV is currently being tested on the Nurburgring, with the release of the latest model expected next year. A small forward-facing camera is located at the center of the vehicle, used by the vehicle's safety and driver-assist systems.
Jaguar Land Rover chose not to significantly alter the design of the Range Rover Velar EV, opting instead to focus on performance and technology. The company is committed to delivering an electric vehicle that maintains the luxury and elegance associated with the Range Rover brand, while also pushing the boundaries of what's possible with electric powertrains.
The Range Rover Velar EV is expected to have a battery pack between 85-100 kWh, providing a significant range for long journeys. With its powerful electric motors, sleek design, and advanced technology, the Range Rover Velar EV is set to be a game-changer in the luxury electric vehicle market.
