Labor Day Operations in Alexandria, Virginia
Residents and visitors in Alexandria, Virginia, can expect a number of changes in services and facilities on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2023. Here's a round-up of what to expect:
Parks and Recreation
Old Town Pool and Warwick Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Labor Day. The Torpedo Factory Art Center, however, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For updates on periodic 5 p.m. closures, visit torpedofactory.org/todays-hours. All other City of Alexandria recreation facilities and nature centers will be closed on Labor Day.
Museums
Gadsby's Tavern Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Labor Day. Unfortunately, all other Historic Alexandria museums will be closed on the day.
Government Services
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) offices, the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and the Clerk of Circuit Court will all be closed. No information was provided regarding the operations of the Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and the Clerk of Circuit Court.
Transportation
DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday service schedule on Labor Day. DMV offices, on the other hand, will be closed. More than 50 services are available 24/7 online at dmv.virginia.gov.

Waste and Recycling
Residential refuse, recycling, curbside food waste, and yard waste will not be collected on Monday, September 1, and will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Impound Lot
The City's impound lot is closed on all weekends and observed City holidays, including Labor Day. Fees will continue to accrue on Saturday and Sunday, but not on holidays at the impound lot.
Libraries
All Alexandria Libraries will be closed on Labor Day.
Parking
The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts on Labor Day. Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced during the suspension of parking enforcement.
Other Notices
The Bürgerbüro (citizens' office) is closed from 12:00 noon due to illness on Monday, September 1, 2025. No other institutions or facilities are mentioned as closed on that date outside this notice. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be closed on Monday, September 1.
