Kuwaiti woman penalized 4,000 dinars due to negligence towards her child
In a recent ruling under Kuwait's Child Law No. 21/2015, a Kuwaiti woman has been found guilty of child neglect and fined 4,000 dinars ($13,090). The woman, whose name remains undisclosed, was accused of leaving her children unattended while she travelled abroad for plastic surgery.
The case gained significant attention as it involved a Kuwaiti woman and her children. The children's grandmother revealed that the mother had been absent from her children for several months. This absence was confirmed by the children's father, the woman's husband.
The son of the accused also testified in court, stating that his mother abandoned him and his siblings. Child protection authorities supported these claims of child neglect made against the woman.
Attorney Abdul Mohsen Al Qattan, representing the children's grandmother, demanded the maximum penalty and compensation. He argued that the mother's actions were a clear breach of the rights guaranteed to children under Kuwait's Child Law No. 21/2015, which guarantees children the right to care and penalizes parental neglect.
However, the mother's lawyer sought acquittal in the case. They argued that the mother had made arrangements for her children's care before her trip.
The court's ruling was based on testimonies from the children's grandmother and the children's wishes. According to news reports, the son expressed a wish to live only with his father.
The ruling is a stark reminder of the serious consequences that come with neglecting one's children. It underscores the importance of the provisions in Kuwait's Child Law No. 21/2015, which are designed to protect the rights and welfare of children.
