Kuwait Emphasizes Women's Empowerment and Anti-Violence Initiatives

Kuwait is making significant strides in supporting and empowering women across various sectors, as outlined by Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs. Sheikha Jawaher stressed that Kuwait remains steadfast in its commitment to combating all forms of violence and discrimination against women.

During a meeting with Al-Salem, Sheikha Jawaher highlighted the impressive achievements of Kuwaiti women in diverse fields, such as the diplomatic corps, security and police services, the judiciary, the public prosecution, sports, and youth development.

In a separate meeting, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, discussed these efforts with UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Al-Salem. Dr. Al-Huwailah emphasized the importance of providing comprehensive support in line with Kuwait's commitment to advancing women's rights.

Reem Al-Salem welcomed these efforts and praised the recent legislative amendments adopted by Kuwait. She noted that these amendments reflect Kuwait's commitment to strengthening its justice system and safeguarding vulnerable groups.

The Central Agency for Illegal Residents presented a detailed visual report, supported by statistics, outlining the benefits, services, and opportunities provided to illegal residents in both public and private sectors since its establishment. Al-Salem met with leaders of the agency to discuss initiatives to protect women and girls from violence, measures to empower them, and the facilities and services available to this category.

The meeting reviewed Kuwait's national efforts to protect women and enhance the services provided to them. A comprehensive program was prepared for Al-Salem's visit, which included field tours to key institutions such as the correctional institution, women's prison, police stations, the deportation center, the shelter for female workers, the family court, and the child protection office.

Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait held discussions with Reem Al-Salem, focusing on national efforts to promote women's rights. Counselor Al-Sumait reviewed the legislative and procedural measures introduced to shield women from various forms of violence. The amendments related to the Penal Code were specifically mentioned as part of the recent legislative changes.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to upholding human dignity and protecting the rights of women and girls in line with international standards and conventions. This commitment is evident in the ongoing efforts to combat violence and discrimination against women and the empowerment of women in various sectors across Kuwait.
