Kuhlhoffstraße's Bürgerpark Skatepark has been reactivated and is now available for use once more.

The Bürgerpark Kuhlhoffstraße in Altenessen-Nord is currently undergoing a comprehensive transformation, with one of the first steps being the renovation of its skate facility. As of 26th August 2025, the renovated skate facility is now open for use by both beginners and experienced athletes.

Located within the park, the skate facility offers a diverse range of elements for skateboarding, BMX, scooters, and inline skates. This renovation is part of a larger project aimed at turning the park into a central hub for leisure, education, and social interaction.

Jugendhilfe Essen gGmbH, an organization dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families, including those with disabilities, will take over the park upon its completion. Their mission is to provide nature experiences, play, physical activity, and extracurricular educational programs, all with the goal of promoting young people's development in Essen's north.

The park is intended for use by families, children, and youth, with and without disabilities. Alongside the skate facility, the park will also offer out-of-school educational programs. The renovation and redesign of the park aim to reduce social inequalities and create a welcoming space for all.

While the skate facility is now open, other areas of the park remain closed until the completion of the works. The park's transformation includes renovation and redesign of its green spaces and buildings.
