Krasnodar unites faith and education at Cyril and Methodius Readings 2024

The Traditional Cyril and Methodius Readings have begun in Krasnodar, bringing together educators, clergy, and youth groups. Organised by the Ekaterinodar and Kuban Diocese with regional government support, this year's event focuses on moral education and spiritual growth. The theme, Enlightenment and Morality: Shaping Character and the Challenges of Our Time, highlights the role of faith in modern society.

The event includes lectures, roundtables, and thematic sessions with Cossacks, veterans, teachers, clergy, and students. Governor Veniamin Kondratyev stressed the importance of instilling faith and moral values in young people early. He noted that their beliefs today will determine the region's and the country's future.

Metropolitan Vasily of Kuban and Ekaterinodar spoke about the lasting impact of educators in forming young minds. He described character development as a lifelong process requiring constant effort, rooted in biblical teachings and Orthodox traditions. During the event, he also presented awards to winners of the *For the Moral Feat of a Teacher* contest. The Krasnodar Territory already integrates spiritual education into schools. Over 280,000 students study the *Basics of Orthodox Culture*, while 285 institutions take part in the *Hour of Spirituality* project, reaching around 80,000 pupils. The Cossack education system further supports this effort, with eight cadet corps, 168 schools and kindergartens, and over 5,000 specialised classes involving more than 111,000 children.

The Cyril and Methodius Readings aim to strengthen moral education across Krasnodar. With broad participation from schools, religious leaders, and community groups, the event reinforces the region's commitment to spiritual and ethical development. Organisers hope these efforts will leave a lasting influence on young people's values and future choices.
