Komi's digital food labelling expands to fight illegal trade by 2027

The Ministry of Agriculture and Trade of the Republic of Komi, together with CRTP LLC (the operator of the Honest Sign national digital labeling system), continues to hold seminars for food and beverage producers in the region, the ministry's press service reports.

The Honest Sign digital labeling system is designed to reduce the shadow market and protect consumer rights.

On April 20, an event was held for meat product manufacturers. Since 2021, the region has been phasing in mandatory labeling, which already applies to dairy products, bottled water, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, canned goods, and sauces.

Representatives of the Honest Sign system, Yekaterina Bratanova and Andrei Chamov, explained the legal nuances and provided practical advice. Bratanova outlined the key labeling deadlines for this year. As of March 1, 2026, mandatory registration in the GIS MT (State Information System for Product Labeling) has begun. The next steps will require producers to apply labeling codes and submit reports to the system on their application, as well as notifications when placing goods into circulation:

  • August 1, 2026 – for meat products (ready-to-eat meat and offal-based items);
  • October 1, 2026 – for sausages and processed meats.

For small farms (K(F)Kh) and agricultural cooperatives (SPK), the meat product labeling requirement takes effect on October 1, 2026, giving them additional time to prepare.

Starting June 1, 2027, retailers will be required to report on the withdrawal of meat products from circulation, along with other labeling stages.

The Honest Sign representatives also guided attendees through the GIS MT registration process, explained how to choose labeling methods, determine which products require marking, and discussed equipment support measures. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive expert clarifications.

Producers were reminded that 2026 will also see the introduction of labeling for the following product categories: confectionery, instant drinks, pasta, cereals, and honey. Additionally, a voluntary pilot program for labeling semi-finished and frozen products is currently underway (from November 24, 2025, to August 31, 2026), though no firm deadlines have yet been set for mandatory labeling in this category.

Efforts to implement product labeling in the region remain ongoing.
