In an exciting development for the world of e-reading, Kobo, a leading name in digital books, and Research In Motion (RIM), the makers of BlackBerry devices and software, have partnered to provide an e-reading social service for the Blackberry Playbook Tablet.
Michael Kozlowski, a renowned figure in the e-book and e-reader community, has been at the forefront of this project for the past eighteen years. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Kozlowski is spearheading the development of the Kobo e-reading application for the Blackberry Playbook Tablet.
The Kobo application is set to offer a unique and engaging experience, with a strong emphasis on social interaction and real-time functionality. Users will be able to share book passages, shop for books, read with groups, and discuss books in real-time, all within the application.
In a move that further enhances the social aspect of the Kobo application, it will integrate core elements of the Blackberry Messenger application. This integration will allow users to seamlessly communicate with each other while enjoying their books.
The Blackberry Playbook Tablet was officially launched at the Devon conference in San Francisco. Though the Kobo e-reading application was not part of the official December launch, it is expected to be polished and complete around January or February of 2011.
The partnership between Kobo and RIM marks an exciting step forward in the realm of e-reading, offering a dynamic and social platform for book lovers on the Blackberry Playbook Tablet. With Michael Kozlowski's expertise and the integration of Blackberry Messenger elements, the Kobo application is poised to revolutionise the way we read and share our love for books.
