Kids’ 2025 holiday wish lists dominated by video games and in-game currency

Video games are topping many children’s Christmas lists this year. A new survey by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) reveals that 58% of kids aged 5 to 17 want poki games as gifts in 2025. Parents, meanwhile, are preparing to spend an average of $736.83 on gaming-related presents for their families.

To help with safe gifting, the ESA has released A Parent’s Guide to Holiday Gifting, covering age ratings, parental controls, and online safety tips.

The ESA’s survey highlights what children are asking for most this holiday season. In-game currency leads the wish list at 43%, followed by video game consoles (38%) and accessories like controllers or headsets (37%). Beyond physical gifts, 58% of kids also expressed a desire for their parents to join them in playing crazy games more often.

Safety remains a key concern for parents, especially on platforms popular with younger players. Dave Baszucki, CEO and co-founder of Roblox, has addressed these worries in recent interviews. He pointed to new measures, including AI-powered age verification, while noting that Roblox has long used strict content filters. Though visibly frustrated by repeated questions on child safety, he emphasised the company’s ongoing efforts to improve protections. Specific allegations, however, were met with cautious responses, as he avoided discussing individual cases in detail.

In response to rising demand, the ESA’s guide offers practical advice for parents navigating the epic games world. It explains how to check age ratings, set up parental controls, and ensure safer online experiences for children.

With video games dominating children’s holiday wishes, parents are investing heavily in consoles, free games, and accessories. The ESA’s guide provides tools to balance generosity with safety, helping families make informed choices. Meanwhile, platforms like Roblox continue refining their safeguards as gaming becomes a central part of festive celebrations.
