Kenya extends Digital Infrastructure Development in Kericho and Bomet Regions
Kenya's Digital Super Highway Project Expands Internet Access in Kericho and Bomet Counties
The ICT Authority, a division of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, has taken a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in Kericho and Bomet counties. As of July 2023, 135 institutions in these counties now have internet access, thanks to the Digital Super Highway Project.
In Kericho County, 101 sites have already been connected, with plans to connect an additional 164 sites. Similarly, in Bomet County, 34 sites are currently connected, with 111 more set for connection. This rollout is expected to foster inclusion and improve digital infrastructure in the two counties.
The Digital Super Highway Project is a crucial part of Kenya's broader digital transformation agenda. It is aimed at ensuring residents can take advantage of emerging technologies and services. The project is responsible for improving internet access in Kericho and Bomet counties and is aimed at improving digital infrastructure in these regions.
The initiative aims to enhance connectivity for learning institutions, public offices, and communities. The connection of institutions was done through the Digital Super Highway Project. The ICT Authority plans to connect an additional 275 sites in Kericho and Bomet counties to the internet in 2025, with the project expected to complete the connection of 410 sites in these counties by the same year.
Greater access to information, innovation, and economic empowerment is enabled by this connectivity. The proposed connection of 275 sites is part of the Digital Super Highway Project, which is expected to boost access to digital services and opportunities in Kericho and Bomet counties.
While specific information about which institutions in the Kericho and Bomet counties are planned to be assigned internet access in 2023 and 2024 after the ICT Authority has connected 135 facilities by July 2025 is not available, the ongoing work to connect more institutions in these counties is mentioned.
The Digital Super Highway Project is a significant stride towards Kenya's digital transformation and a testament to the government's commitment to ensuring equal access to digital services for all Kenyans, regardless of their location.
