Kazakhstan stands as the largest economy in the region and serves as our primary trade ally, according to Recep Tayyip Erdogan
The partnership between Kazakhstan and Turkey continues to grow, evolving into an expanded strategic alliance that is shaping the emerging Turkic world. This was evident at the 5th meeting of their High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, where key areas of cooperation were discussed.
The International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Ahmed Yasawi, operating in the Turkestan region for many years, is just one example of the strong ties between the two nations. Now, preparations are underway to establish a branch of the "Medipol University of Istanbul" at the Medical University of Astana.
Energy cooperation is a cornerstone of this partnership. Enhancing oil exports via pipelines like Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan and joint energy projects involving national companies such as KazMunayGas and Turkiye Petroleum are initiatives aimed at reducing electricity shortages and developing large-scale energy projects.
Transport and logistics are another focus area. The development of the Middle Corridor, a critical freight transport route connecting East and West, is a priority. This involves creating a new logistics hub in Aktobe, modernizing railways, highways, and upgrading Caspian Sea shipping infrastructure to boost cargo capacity.
Investment and industrial cooperation are also essential. Turkish investments in Kazakhstan's pharmaceutical, agro-industrial, and mining sectors are on the rise, with manufacturing facilities for dietary supplements and the creation of joint funds to develop natural resources under Kazakhstan’s new royalty regime.
The collaborative development in IT and AI technologies is seen as a priority to expand bilateral partnership in innovation.
Education, science, media, and regulatory coordination are also areas of focus. Harmonizing education and scientific cooperation, joint media projects, and financial regulatory alignment are all steps towards deeper integration.
Defense and security cooperation are also a significant part of the partnership. Technical agreements on UN peacekeeping and other sectoral memoranda reflect a broader strategic and security partnership.
The relations between Kazakhstan and Turkey have not only economic and political implications but also a cultural one. Over 12,000 Kazakhstani students are studying in Turkey, and 300 Turkish students are in Kazakhstani universities. A branch of the University of Gaziantep will be opened at the South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University.
The presidents of Kazakhstan and Turkey have also expressed concern over the escalation of armed conflicts and deemed it necessary to resolve them through peaceful means. The Special role of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict was highlighted by Kazakhstan's president.
Kazakhstan is open to supporting Turkish investors and invites them to participate in large-scale, long-term projects. The President of Kazakhstan congratulated Turkey on the successful hosting of the International Defense Industry Exhibition IDEF 2025. Two schools of the "Maarif" Foundation will be opened in Kazakhstan.
During an official visit, Kazakhstan's president expressed gratitude to Turkey and its people for the warm welcome. The relations between Kazakhstan and Turkey are positioned as a strategic alliance that anchors the emerging Turkic world with a robust civilizational and pragmatic vision.
