Kazakhstan extends LPG export ban for six more months amid supply concerns
Kazakhstan has extended its ban on exporting liquefied petroleum gas by road and rail for another six months. The decision came during a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade, where officials also discussed duties on sunflower seeds and market regulations for sunflower oil. The meeting was led by Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumanjarov. One key outcome was the extension of the liquefied petroleum gas export ban, which remains in place to maintain domestic supply stability.
The commission also examined the impact of export customs duties on sunflower seeds. While no immediate changes were made, the issue of sunflower oil market regulation was deferred to a future session. Over the past three years, Kazakhstan's sunflower oil production has surged by 2.5 times, and exports have nearly quintupled. Domestic prices for sunflower oil have now stabilised, prompting the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition to analyse market trends and processing costs. Additionally, a new six-month permit system was approved for importing slot machines, restricted solely to licensed gambling operators.
The extended ban on liquefied petroleum gas exports will remain for six more months. Meanwhile, the sunflower oil sector will undergo further review, with market data being assessed by competition authorities. The new slot machine import rules will apply only to authorised gambling businesses during the same period.
