Shymkent Court Revokes Suspended Sentence for Illegal Online Casino Operator, Seizes Ill-Gotten Gains
Kazakhstan Court Reverses Suspended Sentence for Illegal Poker Operator
A resident of Shymkent who organized an illegal online poker club accessible via a mobile app has had his suspended sentence overturned, with authorities seizing his illicit earnings, reports our website, citing the press service of Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office.
The operator of the gambling business amassed 2.8 billion tenge in illegal profits.
A lower court had initially sentenced the man to probation without confiscating his unlawful income. However, following an appeal by the Prosecutor General's Office, the cassation court overturned the suspended sentence and imposed a four-year prison term. The court also ordered the seizure of 2.8 billion tenge in favor of the state.
This follows a similar case in March 2026, when a resident of Turkestan Region also had his suspended sentence revoked for running an illegal gambling operation, with 20 million tenge in criminal proceeds confiscated.
