Greens and CDU at Odds Over Constitutional Court Judge

A political standoff has arisen between the Green Party and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) over the election of a judge to the Federal Constitutional Court. The CDU parliamentary group, led by Jens Spahn, has withdrawn its support for the nomination of Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, a highly qualified jurist and the Greens' candidate.

The withdrawal of support by the CDU is unacceptable to the Greens, according to their parliamentary leaders, Katharina Dröge and Britta Haßelmann. They expressed their regret over the withdrawal of Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf's candidacy for the position of judge at the Federal Constitutional Court.

Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf was elected with a two-thirds majority in the judicial selection committee and was proposed to the Bundestag. The coalition, which includes the Greens and the CDU, had originally proposed Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, along with two other candidates, for the Federal Constitutional Court.

The CDU's decision to withdraw support may impact the balance of political views on the Federal Constitutional Court. The behavior of the CDU and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) during the election process for judges at the Federal Constitutional Court has caused damage, according to the Greens.

In response, talks between democratic parliamentary groups in the Bundestag are now considered necessary. The Greens are prepared to continue their efforts to elect Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf to the Federal Constitutional Court, and are ready to do so at any time in the Bundestag.

The Greens and other democratic parliamentary groups may need to find a consensus to elect a candidate for the Federal Constitutional Court. The delay caused by the CDU's withdrawal of support may prolong the election process for the Federal Constitutional Court.

It is worth noting that Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf is an excellent, highly qualified jurist. The Greens consider the withdrawal of support by the CDU to be unacceptable and are determined to push for her election to the Federal Constitutional Court.
