Vuelta a España 2025: Juan Ayuso Claims Third Consecutive Stage Win
After an exhilarating seventh stage of the Vuelta a España 2025, Juan Ayuso of UAE Team Emirates-XRG clinched his third consecutive stage victory. The race, which began in Andorra and ended in Spain, saw a number of exciting developments.
Juan Ayuso broke away from the pack with 11km to go, followed by Marco Frigo and Raúl García Pierna. The trio managed to maintain an advantage of over three minutes with 11km to go, with the breakaway group including Ayuso, Mads Pedersen, Jay Vine, Damien Howson, Marco Frigo, Raúl García Pierna, Jardi van der Lee, Sean Quinn, Joel Nicolau, Kevin Vermaerke, Eduardo Sepúlveda, Brieuc Rolland, and Harold Tejada.
Meanwhile, the main GC contenders finished together, with no significant changes in the standings. Torstein Træen maintained his lead in the red jersey, while Jonas Vingegaard moved into second place, trailing Træen by 2:33 minutes.
The battle for the king of the mountains classification was also intense, with Jay Vine taking the lead. Vine won maximum points atop the Puerto de la Creu de Perves during the stage.
Despite attempts by multiple riders, including Edward Planckaert and Mikel Landa, to establish a break, the peloton proved to be a formidable force. Landa dropped from the peloton lower down the climb, likely losing time.
In the final kilometres, UAE Team Emirates-XRG came to the front of the peloton with Marc Soler and João Almeida. Almeida surged forward, taking Vingegaard and his teammate Kuss, Ciccone, and Bernal, but they were caught by the small group of favorites.
The stage victory went to Juan Ayuso, with Marco Frigo and Raúl García Pierna finishing behind him. The race continues, with Torstein Træen still leading the overall standings. The next stage promises to be just as exciting as the seventh, with the riders set to face another challenging mountainous terrain.
