Johanniter faces crisis or crisis-state condition

The Johanniter Academy in Mitteldeutschland is set to host a four-day "Tactical Week" from September 25 to 28, near Leipzig. This intensive training programme will see the participation of future emergency medical technicians from Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.

The "Tactical Week" is designed to prepare emergency responders for various scenarios, including responses to terrorist situations, shootings, or major accidents and natural disasters. The training includes both theoretical and practical components, with extensive exchange with experts from the fire department, police, THW, and the military.

During the training, future emergency medical technicians will gain hands-on experience in disaster protection, practicing abseiling, securing, and knot-tying on an eight-meter-high tower, thanks to a workshop led by the THW. The Federal Police workshop focuses on situation assessment, self-defense, and de-escalation in conflicts.

The volunteer fire department simulated a caravan fire in one of the workshops, providing a realistic scenario for the participants to practice their response skills. Another workshop dealt with blackout scenarios and chemical, biological, and nuclear hazards.

Carsten Herde, a member of the Johanniter state board, explained that their disaster protection units and water rescue in Saxony are well-prepared for various emergencies. He emphasised the importance of regular training and further education, which the Johanniter regularly organises.

The "Tactical Week" will also see the involvement of the Bundeswehr, the police, fire departments, and rescue services, with the training taking place at the Central German Johanniter Academy. The organisations will collaborate to ensure that the emergency responders are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle any situation that may arise.

In the lead-up to the "Tactical Week", the Johanniter practiced emergency scenarios in Niederau near Meißen over the weekend. This preparation ensures that the participants are well-prepared for the intensive training ahead.

The "Tactical Week" promises to be a valuable opportunity for emergency responders to enhance their skills and knowledge, ensuring that they are ready to face any emergency situation that may arise in Mitteldeutschland.
