Johannesburg-based Bühler expands its service capabilities with the addition of a new die refurbishment machine
Bühler Investments Boost Service Capabilities in Southern Africa
Bühler, a global leader in process and laboratory equipment, has made significant strides in enhancing its service offerings across Southern Africa. The company has announced the installation of a new die refurbishment machine at its Johannesburg workshop, aiming to improve precision, shorten turnaround times, and support sustainability goals.
In a statement, Daniela Supra, Head of Customer Service Operations at Bühler, emphasized the importance of investing in local capabilities for world-class service. She noted that this investment reinforces Bühler's long-term commitment to the region and supports local job creation and skills development.
Johannesburg, which already offers a full suite of refurbishment services, including milling, oil and brewing rolls, die refurbishment, and mechanical repairs, will now be able to cater to a broader range of customer needs with the new equipment. This investment is part of Bühler's strategy to make service more predictive, responsive, and accessible for every customer across the region.
Cape Town, another key location for Bühler in Southern Africa, specializes in mechanical servicing, roll and die reconditioning, and is expanding its machine refurbishment capabilities. Bühler operates three workshops across Southern Africa, with Johannesburg and Cape Town being ISO 9001 certified.
The Lusaka, Zambia, workshop provides on-site mechanical services, roll refurbishment, and logistics support. Field service engineers, strategically located across Southern Africa and trained in both mechanical and electrical disciplines, provide installation support, breakdown repairs, maintenance services, plant audits, and training.
Remote support is becoming increasingly important at Bühler. The implementation of BühlerVision, an augmented reality-based support solution, allows customers to connect to Bühler experts worldwide through Smart Glasses for real-time guidance during diagnostics or repairs. This innovative approach to service ensures a quicker resolution to issues, reducing the risk of downtime for customers.
Bühler also offers service agreements (Inspect Care and Maintain Care) designed to extend equipment lifetime and reduce the total cost of ownership. These agreements are directly structured by customer input, with Bühler's service innovations being a direct response to the needs of its customers.
Daniela Supra, in her statement, also highlighted the importance of customer feedback in service development. She stressed the company's commitment to upskilling more technicians and continuing investment in smart technologies such as Bühler Vision and condition monitoring systems. The expansion of Bühler's regional footprint, upskilling more technicians, and continued investment in smart technologies are all planned to ensure Bühler remains at the forefront of service provision in Southern Africa.
